Luina Panty Pattern Lace Overlay Hack

This can work with any tulle, but I have been using my new Ultra Fine Nude Bra Tulle as the base. I really love how “invisible” this lining is and it’s very soft and slick, which makes such a nice layer for the back of embroidery, especially if you’re sensitive to threads.

Step 1.

Print out the front piece. Use tracing paper, fold it in half, and trace the front piece so that there is a complete full front pattern piece. Use this front piece to cut out a piece of bra tulle with mechanical stretch going vertical (top of waist to gusset).

Special note: put this piece of tulle somewhere safe! I’ve learned that this piece can disappear into thin air! 😂

Step 2.

Play with the lace design placement. I personally like to have the lace meet somewhere at the top of the waist line before the side seam, and somewhere near the bottom of the leg hole but before the gusset.

Theres no right or wrong way for how much coverage you want! Placement is personal preference.

Step 3.

Let’s mark where the bottom of each scallop is at the top and bottom. Then we will draw a straight line.

Step 4.

Now fold the tracing paper in half and flip over the paper so that the marked side is facing down and touching the cutting mat. We are going to trace over the line we drew so that the there is symmetrical lines on the front.

Next, pick the side where the line stops at the center and add ¼ seam allowance just below where it begins to intersect with the other line that goes completely across.

Now trace both pieces with separate tracing paper.

Tada!!!

Now you have 2 pieces for your hack! I recommend labeling where the edge of the lace is supposed to sit on your pattern pieces.

You can decide to mirror the lace or keep one direction.

Now cut out the 2 pieces with lace. Overlap the bigger piece on top of the smaller one ¼ inch seam allowance and sew a zigzag stitch 2mm length and 2mm width (preferably with thread the same color as the design or tulle).

I personally love this hack because it can highlight cute picot details at the top waist band, and give interesting angled lace edge details.
